Relax—don't do it

I have four days off, and only fun stuff planned! I had a hot stone massage yesterday—divine! Playing video games and watching movies today. Taking a fun hike tomorrow. Who knows for Monday, but the point is—no work, no stress. Just fun with Soph and total relaxation. Hmm lots of guitar practice, fabulous books to read...this is the life.

Impressive Reprise

If last night's was great, tonight's play was even better. Soph was very into her character, and was very relaxed. She did such a great job, she got an actual cheer in the middle of the scene for her acting. It was really awesome. She also got applause at the end of the scene—which was rare as there were few chances to applaud between scenes. She's found a wonderful outlet for her creativity! Will post the pics her dad took as soon as he sends them to me.

A Star is Born!

Soph had her middle-school theatrical debut tonight. She was fantastic! Her expressions were spot-on and she didn't forget a single line. She looked like she was having lots of fun. The play—Yearbook—was written after the Columbine disaster. The writer thought there was too much emphasis on the negatives about teenagers, so wrote this play to emphasize the positives. He did a great job with the storyline. The cast did a great job acting it out. Congratulations!

Fake it 'til you make it

I was mentioned in an article in today's paper. It's an amazing organization. The concept: Take women (and now men) who are struggling to enter the workforce—whether from hard luck, divorce, or welfare-to-work programs—provide them a couple of interview outfits, and coaching on how to get and keep a job.

Wardrobe for Opportunity provides more than just the proper look—it provides the proper outlook, and helps clients look like a million dollars so they can feel like a million dollars. The fake it 'til you make it principle is very powerful. Provide appropriate clothing, and it's amazing what kind of attitude follows. Throw in some coaching on how to act in an interview, and how to keep a job long term, and you've got a recipe for success.

While the luncheon mentioned in the article gave the organization a huge headstart toward meeting this year's budget, Wardrobe for Opportunity is always in need of business clothing of all sizes, wardobe accessories including jewlery and shoes, and money.

In addition to the money I've donated, my next donation is to help them improve their website.

Whew! I finished it.

Didn't realize how much pressure I was putting on myself regarding the advanced HTML class I was taking. I wasn't taking it for work, or college credit...it was supposedly just for fun. However, I took it very seriously and put a lot of pressure on myself to do well. I felt such a tremendous relief when I finished the final tonight. I want to say I don't care what grade I get, but I'd by lying. Why am I so hard on myself?

Half a score and three years ago...

Anne Baxter, Gary Cooper, and Eva Peron were born this day. Lots of events, ranging from volcanoes to sporting events also happened this day. The most important person born this day...and the most important event in my life so far happened May 7, 1991, at 12:12 p.m., when the most beautiful baby girl in the world was born: Sophia.

I can't believe how grown up she is now--how beautiful, poised, and kind she is. Happy birthday, teenager, may all your dreams come true!

Still Rockin'

The calluses on my left fingertips are well developed now. I'm so proud of them--which seems kinda funny sometimes. I just love playing my guitar. I'm learning a couple of songs in addition to continuing with my drills. There are days it's frustrating because it's just a matter of practice and putting in lots of time, which I really don't have right now, but I can tell I'm making progress, so I'm trying to be gentle with myself.

At any rate, I'm still very much having fun with my guitar. Taking every possible opportunity to watch guitarists, chat with them, learn from them. Won't be starting up a garage band any time soon, but am definitely having lots of fun.
