Monthly Activities

This section contains a list of previous monthly activities, listed by category.

Unlocking Your Creativity

April 2004—Embrace your poetic muse. At least once a day, jot down a poem about anything. Bring your poems to the next workshop as inspiration for a story, character, or longer poem.

June 2004—Start compiling a list of memorable or unusual thoughts. For example, something you overheard someone say in a restaurant; the smell of your grandmother's hand lotion; an odd kid from grade school; your favorite book. Write about one of your ideas per week this month, there may be a bigger story hidden in one—if not, at least you started writing.

July 2004—Write about a holiday family dinner. Include all the wild characters and conversations, and write about the experience using all your senses.

Procrastination Busters

May 2004—Write briefly about a time when you were faced with a difficult decision about telling the truth. Write several alternate endings to the story—what ifs about how it could have gone and the consequences.
